Emily Pond was inspired to become a nurse by her mother, who was also a nurse, and she was further drawn to the profession because of her desire to help others.
Mrs. Pond completed a nursing residency in the telemetry and stroke unit of Dekalb Medical, now known as Emory Decatur Hospital and transitioned to outpatient surgery at Skin Cancer Specialists in 2014. Mrs. Pond currently excels as a nurse administrator and surgery center director with Barbour Orthopaedics Surgery Center in Atlanta, Georgia. She is credited with the launch of an orthopedic outpatient surgical center that included initial state licensing and accreditation by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Healthcare. She spearheaded the creation of all policies and procedures at her center and leads all continuing education activities to foster employee knowledge of safety, emergency preparedness, and overall patient satisfaction. In addition, she instituted a standardized infection control program and implemented a system to track and analyze data to improve patient outcomes.
Mrs. Pond served as a visiting professor at the Chamberlain College of Nursing and maintains her affiliation with the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology, the Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses, the Chamberlain College of Nursing, the University of Tennessee Student Nurses’ Association, the Order of Omega Greek Honors Society, and Delta Zeta Sorority. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the University of Tennessee with a double minor in Spanish and Child & Family Studies and was selected for the Robert O. and Phylis L. Baron nursing fellowship.
Civically, Mrs. Pond volunteers for food banks, outreach groups, and community programs in her community. Throughout her career, she has attributed her professional success to the people who have always supported her in all of her endeavors. Looking toward the future, Mrs. Pond plans to establish other surgery centers in order to serve more patients and deliver exceptional care to all.
